Mission

Based in Tunis since January 2004, BUSINESSMED, the Union of Mediterranean Confederations of Enterprises, was founded by employers’ organizations that represent Turkey, Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia.

As central objective, BUSINESSMED aim at facilitating the creation of "Mediterranean Free Trade Region" planned to be realized by 2010, through coordination and cooperation among private sector agents in the region, promoting growth and trade as well as economic and social development.

The Union provides each National Confederation with a Network of Country Desks, in all Union members’ countries, giving assistance in trade and investment to all member Confederations. 

The main objectives of the Country Desk Project is to assist National Confederations  in achieving the internationalization of the Mediterranean companies and building up a large network of business relations between the southern countries and consolidating the economic relations between the North and the South.

BUSINESSMED is the result of the process set off in 1995 with the adoption of the EU Barcelona Process and policies proposal to strengthen the Mediterranean policy by the European Council.

Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo joined the whole process from the very beginning.
